Our ranger-led activity from the National Pride Service this week is called "Touch something green". Did we time this to coincide with St. Patrick's Day? You decide. ☘️😇

Each activity we post will contain a resilience exercise, a reflection, and an action opportunity. You are welcome to do any of the parts of the activity that resonate with you.

Resilience Exercise

This week's reflection exercise is super simple. We want you to go touch something green. If you have spent some time on the Internet, you may have come across the phrase "go touch some grass." The phrase arose from the idea that some people spend so much time online and on screens that they never go outside. It's a reminder that connection with nature and the offline world is an important part of a healthy and balanced life.

We say "go touch something green" rather than grass because we understand that everyone lives in an area with easy access to a park or green spaces. Go to a park or a garden today if you have access to one. You can also buy yourself some flowers or a plant or ask a neighbor if they can show their plants to you. You could buy some fresh produce from the grocery store and make yourself a delicious meal or a tasty snack

You can also be very literal about this exercise and touch anything that's green. A crayon, a t-shirt, a leftover St. Patty's Day decoration. As long as you take a moment to give yourself a break and some fun with the assignment, we're cool with whatever you come up with!

Reflection

There are at least fifteen pride flags with green in them. Do you know which flags have green in them?

If you don't, no worries! Even people in the rainbow community rely on the Internet to keep track all of the flags. They evolve so fast even Darwin's head would be spinning from trying to keep up.

Visit PrideFlags.org to learn all about the fabulous flags that are out in the wild now.

Action Opportunity

Do an activity outside. Go for a walk. Visit a new shop. Eat your lunch or a snack in a new location. Even if you only have five minutes to spare, use those five minutes to get some fresh air. Remind yourself there is more to this world than what we see through our screens.

Bonus action opportunity: Donate some "green" to a cause that resonates with you. Even $5 can make a difference. Pick a local organization or a national organization or maybe one of each to give a little money to. Here are some national organizations in the United States worth considering:
